Beverly Ann (Popp) Bell died January 17th 2013 at Sheridan Memorial Hospital in Sheridan, WY of influenza Type A surrounded by a circle of love.
Bev was born on a homestead near Sonnette, Montana May 4th 1932 to John and Blanche Harriet (Mettlen) Popp. She was the youngest of 8 children. Her father was a German immigrant who became a U.S. citizen in 1910. She had many fond memories of living on the ranch, riding horses and making mischief with her older siblings.
She attended Mitchell School until the 8th grade riding her horse 3 miles from their ranch where the school had a barn to put their horses in. She then attended Broadus High School.
Bev married Gerald Walton Dent in Miles City October 16, 1948. Jerry played the piano and steel guitar. At Dent family gatherings the women played cards and the men played music. Bev and Jerry lived in Broadus, MT, Miles City, MT, Sonnette, MT, Sheridan WY, Devils Tower, WY, and Hulette WY. To this union were born daughters Gail, Jeri, Cindy and Shelly. Jerry was killed in a car accident driving home after playing for a dance on August 12th, 1962.
Bev married Harold Roger Rank November 27, 1962 in Rapid City, SD. Roger was a wanderlust and they moved many times. They enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. To this union was born a son, Steve. Roger adopted Shelly and Cindy. Bev and Roger later divorced in August 1970.
Bev married James W. Bell on March 20th, 1971 in Buffalo, WY. To this union was born a daughter, Heather. They lived in Wyoming and Idaho. Bev and Jim later divorced in June 1986 in Sheridan WY.
Bev worked many jobs throughout the years including flagging in road construction, cooking in the school, retail, owning several restaurants including the Husky Cafe and the A & W in Buffalo Wyoming and the Kendrick Drive Inn in Kendrick, ID. She also worked as a bookkeeper at A & K Construction for Larry Baker from 1986 – 1996. She worked for Money Lenders in Sheridan, WY and Billings, MT for 8 ½ years retiring in 2007.
Bev was an accomplished seamstress and craft person and an excellent cook. Her family always enjoyed her fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy. She enjoyed nature, being outdoors, reading, playing cards and listening to music. She had a wonderful dry sense of humor. She said she could not carry a tune in a bucket but we all looked forward to her early morning phone call singing our happy birthday song. She was not religious, but deeply spiritual and prayed daily for the well being of her family.
One thing was for certain; Bev knew how to love and she loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren unconditionally, even when it was hard. She always had time to listen and to give a hug to any of her family that needed it.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry, her parents and eight older siblings, and son-in-laws Jamie LeBrun, Gary Johnson and Randy Ellsworth.
