Barbara Ellen Berg was born on December 5, 1927 in Bismark, North Dakota to George and Ellen Stuntz. She was the middle child of six girls, raised by their father after the death of their mother in 1932. Barb attended high school in Steele, N.D. and later attended the Wahpeton State School of Science, an accomplishment of which she was very proud. In 1945, she married Leo Clifford Berg with whom she raised five children until his death in 1967. She never remarried.
Barb was a well known and respected resident of Kaycee. She had a reputation as a hard worker, always ready to lend a hand. She loved being outdoors and could often be found gardening barefoot or enjoying iced tea and good book on her porch. She was also an avid birdwatcher.
Her talent as a woodcarver became a trademark and her carved birds and Christmas ornaments are treasured by her grandchildren, family and friends.
She is survived by her sister, Nina Flannders; her five children, Georgia Sandrig, Pat Berg, Paul Berg, Nancy Liedahl and Virginia Berg; 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters, Mary, Sylvia, Niki and Ruthie; and a daughter-in-law, Lila Berg.
