Andrew “Andy” John Banas, 88, of Sheridan passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at his residence.

Andy was born on October 2, 1924 in Dietz, Wyoming to Michael and Dorothy

(Martenak) Banas. He attended school in Deeds and Sheridan, Wyoming. He also attended two years of college at Colorado State University in Fr. Collins, Colorado. Andy joined the Air Force in 1942 and served as a tail gunner. He was awarded the Purple Heart and numerous battle stars. He returned to Sheridan, working as a mail carrier with the U.S. Post Office for thirty years. He went on to work ten years for the Wyoming Highway Department.

Andy enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and watching them at the ballpark playing baseball and softball.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Fern Banas, two brothers; Mike and George, and one sister, Ann. He is survived by three children; Jackie, John and Joseph, and three grandchildren; Serena Smith-Banas, Kaid, and Kaitlyn Banas.

Services for Andy will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2012 at Kane Funeral Home with Interment in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with Father Louis Shea officiating. A reception will follow at the Kane Reception Hall.
