Funeral services for Allen Melander, 90 year old Buffalo man who passed away early Tuesday morning at the V.A. Medical Center in Sheridan, will be held at a later date. Donations in Mr. Melander’s memory may be made to help the family defray funeral expenses in care of Harness Funeral Home, 351 N. Adams Avenue in Buffalo.
Allen Verley Melander was born on March 8, 1923 in Gibbon, Minnesota to Anton and Agnes Melander. He grew up and went to school in Gibbon and Lafayette, Minnesota. After his schooling he worked as a farm hand until he was drafted into the United States Army and served during World War II in the South Pacific. He was married November 3, 1951 in New Ulm, Minnesota to Selma Publitz and they made their home in Cambridge, Minnesota, where they lived on their farm and he worked as a machinist until 1974 when they moved to Moorcroft, Wyoming where he worked as a machinist in Gillette, Wyoming. In 1976 Allen and Selma moved to Buffalo, Wyoming where he worked as a custodian for the Johnson County School District until retiring in 1985. They continued to live in Buffalo until the time of his death.
He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. The special love of his life was his family and the wonderful time that he enjoyed with them all.
He is survived by his wife Selma of Buffalo; three sons, Gary Melander and his wife Cameron of Virginia Beach, Virginia, David Melander of Meridian, Idaho and Dean Melander and his wife Alisa of Aurora, Colorado; one Daughter, Janet Goenner and her husband Keith of Isanti, Minnesota, two brothers; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
