Some of the Sheridan County Commissioners met Tuesday with representatives from the Sheridan County Fair Association to discuss plans for the new year - including the concept of an indoor arena. Sheridan Media's Chris Foy was there and has the story.
Steve Eliason, chairman of the Sheridan County Fair Association's Board of Trustees, says the rumor mill has been buzzing with disinformation about their proposed indoor arena. He says the discussion in the community on this issue presents an opportunity to set the record straight.
The commissioners said the fair association has $141,000 in grant funding available specifically for a new office building and parking lot improvements.
Board member Brenda Williams said the concept of an indoor arena is an important one and that it's not set in stone. But she stressed that this time of year, having an arena available during the winter could be of great value to the fairgrounds and the community.
Williams says the most recent estimate for one potential indoor arena has a price tag of $880,000 - but she reminded those present it's simply a concept that the fair board has thoroughly researched.
Eliason explained some of the fair board's strategy moving forward.
