Charles R. (Bob) Fitzpatrick

Charles R. (Bob) Fitzpatrick, 87, of Buffalo, WY, died Thursday, October 1, 2009 in Johnson County Health Care Center.

Mr. Fitzpatrick was born January 8, 1922 in Sheridan, WY to L. L. (Mike) and Frances (Dentler) Fitzpatrick. He grew up and attended schools in Sheridan, Ranchester, and Dayton, WY.

On December 27, 1940, Bob enlisted in the 115th Cavalry. On February 24, 1941 they sere shipped to Ft. Lewis, Washington. After a year of training, and war had been declared, part of the 115th was sent to Calgary, Canada. Bob then was sent to Camp Pendleton, CA for a 6-week combat school. Bob served in the Asiatic Pacific and the European Theater. He was honorably discharged on August 16, 1945 at Ft. Logan, Colorado.

On February 7, 1947, Bob married Betty Sue Perkins in Billings, Montana. He worked at various cow and horse camps. In 1950 he leased the U-6 on Badger Creek in a working partner-ship with the late W. S. (Bud) Perkins.

He later leased ranches in the Lodge Grass, Frannie, Deaver, and Clearmont areas. He discontinued his farming and ranching operations in 1964. Betty Sue passed away in 1968. Bob then spent a few years on different ranches including the 7-UP on Prairie Dog and the U W.

On June 23, 1978 he married Mary Ellen Pehringer in Sheridan, and continued to work for the U M ranch until retiring in 1983. The couple lived in New Mexico in the winters and on the U M and H F Bar ranches in the summers for several years. They sold their property in New Mexico in 1993 and moved to Buffalo, WY.

Mr. Fitzpatrick enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards, reading, walking, and spending time in the Big Horns. Bob also loved to run coyotes with his hound.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; one brother; one son; and one step-son.

Bob is survived by his wife, Ellen, of Buffalo, WY; two sons, Dan C. Fitzpatrick, of Payson, Arizona, and Robert R. Fitzpatrick, of Rock Dale, Texas; four step-sons, Don, Jerry, Leon, and Ray Pehringer; one sister, Helen Jeffers, of Sheridan, WY; one half-brother, Mike Fitzpatrick, two half-sisters, Vickie Harris, and Patsy Bickison, all of Casper, WY; and four grandchildren.

A Memorial service fort Mr. Fitzpatrick will be 2:00 P. M. Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob McHenry officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Memorials in memory of Mr. Fitzpatrick may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
