In a news release from the Sheridan Senior Center, Director of Development, Rindy West, states that the Beverly Foundation of Albuquerque, New Mexico announced the Sr. Center as the recipient of its STAR Award for Senior Transportation Services.
The Sheridan MiniBus provides 52,000 rides per year within Sheridan County, and allows seniors to maintain contact with the community even though they may not be able to drive their own vehicle. The Center has a fleet of eleven MiniBuses, which provide seniors with acces to adult day care, lunch at the Senior Center, area restaurants, exercise at various facilities through the community, bingo, entertainment, physical therapy, medical appointments, grocery shopping -- in short, wherever they need to go, the MiniBus is at their service.
As part of the award, the Sr. Center will receive $5,000, which will be used to help support the extension of hours of operation in the evening hours. And residents should note that the Sheridan MiniBus is for everyone in the community, not just senior citizens, as it is considered public transportation.
