The arts are alive and well at the Big Horn Schools. Thursday night the high school band held their Festival Band Concert while the elementary students held their art show at the Bradford Brinton Memorial and Museum.
High school band director, Ariel Downing says Thursday was a preview concert for parents, friends, and family with a much bigger performance next week.
The band premiered a new work for concert band written by Dr. Michael Forbes called “A More Perfect Union.” Downing says for her, it just made sense to combine cross county sports rivals Big Horn and Tongue River, playing together in unity.
The concert also featured the Jazz Band which received a Superior Rating at the Casper College Jazz Festival last February.
An artists' reception for Big Horn Elementary students was held Thursday night at the Bradford Brinton. Over 200 pieces of art were on display featuring the work of every single student in grades K-5.
Art teacher Maryke Nel Ozog says there was one requirement of all students.
There are landscapes, still lives, and portraiture, done in a variety of mediums including markers, pen, watercolor, and tempura. But the kids loved this medium.
Third grader, Elizabeth Foley, describes her piece done in marker titled “Rainbow.”
The art show will be on display at Bradford Brinton through Sunday.
