Powder River District fire crews have shut down sections of I-25 due to a fire just north of Kaycee.

The fire began at approximately 1 p.m. and is burning approximately 1900 acres between mile markers 265 and 270. Currently the cause of the fire is unknown, according to Johnson County Emergency Management Coordinator Marilyn Connolly.

Fire crews are utilizing aircraft to dump slurry on the fire as well as motorized blades to slow spread.

Traffic is being diverted onto Old Highway 87.
