Estimates Lower on Jo Co Library Expansion Property

Estimates done on the property just north of the Johnson County Library have come back substantially lower than the price being asked by the property owner, according to members of the Library Board, who gave the results to the County Commissioners at their meeting earlier this week.
The property is being considered for purchase by the library and the county for possible future expansion of the library.
Board members Cynthia Twing and Kathy Urruty said two estimates were done on the fourplex and came in at $265,000 and $230,000 which is much lower than the nearly $400,000 asking price.
The board, they said, was seeking direction from the commissioners.
The commissioners suggested the board have a certified appraisal done on the property to determine its value, which the county will fund, and then begin negotiations with the property owner.
If a compromise can be reached between the library and the property owner, then the board can approach the county commissioners at that time to determine if buying the property is feasible.
The commissioners voted to approve and pay for the appraisal.
