Last week we told you about the $3 million dollar grant that the Sheridan Memorial Hospital Foundaiton received from the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust to assist in the purchase of equipment for the new Welch Cancer Center. Sheridan ER Physician Dr. Tom Richards, who is also a Foundation Board member, happened to be at a convention where the two crossed paths.

McCafferty said that Leona Helmsley's grandson Walter Panzirer (pan-zeer) came to Sheridan to meet with him and Dr. Stamato to discuss the project. After meeting with Hospital officials, McCafferty said that Panzirer was impressed with the support that the Foundation had received from various foundations and expressed that the Helmsley Trust would like to be a part of the project moving forward.

As far as the project, McCafferty indicated that everything is moving along on schedule and that footings are being poured and things are moving along rather nicely. The $3 million grant that the Hospital Foundation received from the charitable Trust if for three years and will assist in the purchase of a new linear accelerator and CT treatment planning equipment.
