The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has announced that black bear hunt areas 3 and 4 in the Bighorn Management Unit in the Bighorn Mountains are now closed. The closure was due to the fact that the spring harvest quota of six female black bears was reached.

The G&F reminds hunters to check the status of their hunt areas before they head out by calling the Black Bear Mortality Hotline at (800) 264-1280.

The G&F also wants to remind people to leave newborn wildlife alone. With the warmer weather, people may start seeing more and more newborn wildlife around that may appear to be abandoned, which is typically not the case.

In fact, most mothers hide their young and return to them periodically to nurse. State and Federal laws forbid possession of game and many non-game animals, so adopting newborn wildlife isn't just dangerous for the animals well being, it's also illegal.
