The annual “Sounds of Summer” Concerts in the Park Series opens the 2010 season with Tuesday evening performances, starting tonight at the Kendrick Park Bandshell in Sheridan. The community concert band will be on stage for four of the concerts, and event coordinator David Kuzara tells us how that group is comprised.

Bill Avery will be the conductor for tonight's concert. The community band will also perform on Tuesday, July 6th with Don Cherni and Ariel Downing conducting; August 10th with Diane Knutson waving the baton; and August 17th under the direction of Garth Moline.

The community band rehearses Monday nights at 7 in the Sheridan High School Band room. Kuzara says if you might be interested but aren't quite sure, you're welcome to sit in on a rehearsal.

As for the other Tuesday concerts, Kuzara tells us about the variety bands that will be performing.

All the concerts are free of charge and begin at 7:30 pm and are open to everyone. And it is customary to bring blankets or lawn chairs, as well as picnic supper to enjoy. And of course, it's always enjoyable to stroll down to the ice cream stand while the music is playing.
