It's been over a decade since the last Wyoming State Republican Convention was held in Sheridan; however, that will soon change as over 400 members of the State GOP are set to make Sheridan their home for the next few days.

Plans Underway for Big Horn Elementary

The School District 1 Board of Trustees, along with members of the Wyoming State School Facilities Commission and the Sheridan Delegation to the Wyoming Legislature were present last night at a community forum to go over the approved plans of the new Big Horn Elementary School. The latest unemployment figures for Johnson, Sheridan and Campbell counties are out, and show slight drops in all three counties. Campbell County, which is at 6.7 percent, sits below the state average at 7.3 percent. However, Johnson is above the state average at 9.6 percent. Sheridan, too, is also above the state average.

Groundbreaking For North Main Reconstruction

Work began on the North Main Street reconstruction project back in February and is expected to last through June of 2011. The official groundbreaking ceremony took place Tuesday with representatives from the City of Sheridan, WYDOT and the North Main Neighborhood Association on hand for the event. Sheridan Mayor Dave Kinskey comments on how it's nice to see the project come to fruition.

U.S. District Judge William Downes ruled Tuesday afternoon in favor of William Ayers and University of Wyoming student Meg Lanker in their lawsuit against the University of Wyoming. The lawsuit was initiated when the University restricted Ayers from speaking on campus.

23-year-old Jerald Roberts changed his plea to guilty Tuesday morning in 4th Judicial District Court. Roberts plead guilty to aggravated homicide by vehicle. The charge stems from a one vehicle rollover on April 20th 2009 that took the life of Christopher Fletcher.

Finalists Chosen for College President

In a media release issued from Sheridan College this morning, three finalists have been chosen for the position of President of the Northern Wyoming Community College District, which includes Sheridan College, Gillette College, and the campus in Buffalo.
