Kids Reading in Technology Age

This little girl gets lost in her book.

One in four kids between the ages of six and 17 say texting with friends ‘counts’ as reading… and their parents disagree. That’s one of the findings in a new study released by Scholastic, which also details how parents see that as kids get more involved in the digital age, the time spent reading books for fun declines.

The Downtown Sheridan Association held their Annual Awards Meeting Tuesday night at the Elks Lodge in Downtown Sheridan. The event is held every year to recognize and acknowledge businesses within the community that have helped out or contributed to the community in any way.

The 15' x 20' quilt that was stolen from the Sheridan County Fulmer Library's Fiber Arts show last week has a little bit of history behind it. Last year a sweater was stolen from the exhibit, which prompted Artist Carol Kolf to make a special quilt for this year's show that ironically enough, was stolen as well.

District 2 Honors AP Program

The City of Sheridan Planning Commission voted 2-3 in opposition of a proposed light manufacturing building that would be located at the City's Hi-Tech Park in north Sheridan. Planning Commissioner Nancy Silla was one of the three members that voted against the building design; she explains some of the reasons for doing so.

Mule Deer Near Gillette Tests Positive for CWD

A mule deer harvested on October 2, near Gillette from hunt area 18 has tested positive for chronic wasting disease, which is a brain disease that has been known to affect some deer, elk and moose. Game and Fish Information Specialist Warren Mischke says that the G&F has been conducting surveys since the rifle hunting season began.

Sunday, 130 volunteers from Bethesda Worship Center in Sheridan put feet to their faith as they went outside of the walls of the church to serve the community. Volunteer Greg Hagerott says that it was about giving back to the community.
