The Johnson County Family YMCA is interested in possibly using the Johnson County Youth Camp in the Bighorn Mountains, and has approached the county commissioners and city council to find out what procedure they must follow to do so.
City Attorney Ben Kirven gave some history concerning the camp to the council.
The youth camp was originally located at what is now Tie Hack Reservoir and would be underwater had the city not agreed to move the camp when the dam and reservoir were built.
The camp was relocated to its current location on state-owned land in the Bighorn Mountains.
Kirven give more detail on the facility.
The annual “rent” for the lease of the state land, about $650 per year, has been paid by the Youth Camp Board, who owns the building, through user fees charged by them for use of the facility.
Kirven explained that he though the camp would be available for the “Y” to rent, and explained further.
The next step is for the city, county and Youth Camp Board to figure out who actually owns the building.
