Year End Re-Cap — Part 2

We continue our year-end wrap-up with the year's top stories. Sheridan Media's Ron Richter takes a look at the months of May through August.


May started off with the State Republican Convention being held in Sheridan. State Party Director Ryan Taylor explains one of the common concerns that was raised at the convention.

1st Degree Murder Suspect Shawn Osborne was arraigned in 4th Judicial District Court, where he plead “Not Guilty by Reason of Mental Deficiency or Impairment”. The local Game and Fish Office responded to several mountain lions that made their way into City limits; one of those lions had to be put down.

In June, the Wyoming Business Council awarded a $2.5 million grant to the City of Sheridan for infrastructure on the Hi-Tech Business Park in north Sheridan. Sheridan Municipal Court Judge Stu Healy plead “No Contest” to a Breach of Peace charge, had a Battery charge dismissed, and was placed on one year probation for an incident in August, 2009 where Healy confronted a group of teenagers outside his home in Sheridan.

Of course the first big event in July was the fireworks show at the Big Horn Equestrian Center, which consistently draws a crowd of thousands. 63-year-old Sheridan resident, David Westlake died of cardiac arrest after being struck by lightning in the Big Horn Mountains. And what would July be without the Sheridan WYO Rodeo? Kiwanian Mandy Madry comments on the pancake breakfast that is the kickoff to Rodeo Friday.

August began with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers presenting the results of a Section 22 Floodplain Mapping Study to City and County officials. The 5th Aannual Big West Arts Festival took place on the front lawn of Sheridan College, and the 1st Degree Murder Trial for Dennis Poitra Jr. got underway in 4th Judicial District Court. Poitra, Jr. was on trial for taking part in the August 26th,2009 murder of Robert Ernst.
