Wyoming Traffic Deaths Are At A 10-Year Low

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - The Wyoming Highway Patrol reports that
fewer motorists died on the state's roadways in 2009 than in any of the preceding ten years.Sgt. Steve Townsend of the Wyoming Highway Patrol said the state had experienced 131 fatalities as of Wednesday. That's down 28 from the 159 people who died in 2008.Wyoming saw an average of more than 149 traffic fatalities a year from 1999 through 2008. Wyoming's record for traffic fatalities was set in 1981 with 264 deaths. More than half of those were alcohol-related. Wyoming in 1982 established a program that allows motorists to call in to report drunken drivers.
