Wyoming murder suspect to drop mental illness defense

The lawyer for a Sheridan man charged with first-degree murder says his client no longer plans to base his defense on a claim of mental illness. Attorney Robert Jones says 29-year-old Shawn Osborne plans to change his plea to not guilty, instead of not guilty by reason of mental illness or deficiency. The Sheridan Press reports that Jones told a judge of the change on Wednesday. Osborne is accused of killing 42-year-old Gerald Bloom. Police say Bloom's body was found in a sleeping bag beneath a trailer home he shared with others. His throat had been slit. Osborne's trial is scheduled to start Monday.
