Wyoming Home Weatherization Projects

Wyoming News Service, Cheyenne, WY – Save up to 25% on home heating bills. That’s the lure for Wyoming’s Weatherization Assistance Program, which has helped get energy efficiency projects installed in more than 300 homes in recent months. Program manager Brenda Ilg says priority is given to low-income households with seniors, people with disabilities and young children.

An energy audit and computerized program helps crews come up with a list of projects that will make the biggest reduction in energy bills.

Ilg says renters are eligible to apply for weatherization, and the projects are coordinated with the property owner – although the focus is on doing what’s best for the people who live there.

Ilg says it’s interesting to note that low-income households pay about 17 percent of their household cash towards energy bills, while middle class families spend about four percent. Families can apply for the program at any senior center or at the Department of Family Services website: dfs.wy.gov
