Twenty six families and their corresponding farms and ranches were honored with a 2010 Centennial Farm and Ranch award at a recent ceremony in Douglas. The families were recognized for owning and operating the same agricultural property for 100 years or more.
Each family was recognized with a certificate and metal sign for display on their properties. Senators Mike Enzi and John Barrasso, along with Governor Dave Freudenthal and U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis presented the awards.
Senator Barrasso says that while farms and ranches are disappearing across the country, these Wyoming families are being recognized for their perseverance.
The State Historic Preservation office re-established the centennial farm and ranch program in 2006. Partners in the program are the Wyoming Stock Growers, the Wyoming Wool Growers, the Wyoming Department of Agriculture, the Wyoming Rural Electric Association and the Wyoming Business Council.
