Wyoming Department of Health: Wyoming Homes Should be Tested for Radon

January is National Radon Action Month and the Wyoming Department of Health encourage residents to test their homes frequently for the odorless gas. Department of Health Radon Program Manager Steve Melia.

Radon is a naturally occurring, invisible, odorless, tasteless gas that is dispersed in outdoor air, but can reach harmful levels when trapped indoors. Radon comes from the natural decay of uranium, which is found in the soil. The gas enters buildings from the soil through cracks and other openings in foundations.

According to a number of national cancer interest groups and federal government agencies, exposure to radon can independently increase a person’s risk of developing lung cancer.
