Wyo. Military Dept. Plans to Furlough More Than 430 Employees

The Wyoming Military Department announced it's planning to furlough more than 430 due to furloughs planned by the Department of Defense. The majority of affected employees work either in Cheyenne at the Joint Forces Readiness Center or with the Wyoming Air National Guard.

In a media release, Major General Luke Reiner – Wyoming's adjutant general – said despite this Wyoming's armed forces will remain operationally ready. He says if Governor Matt Mead calls on them for assistance, the Wyoming National Guard will be ready.

All affected employees, including 108 state employees funded by federal dollars, will receive their furlough notices before the end of this week.

Additionally, field maintenance facilities in Cheyenne, Evanston, Lovell and Laramie will be closed on Fridays to save on utility and maintenance costs.
