Wyo. Kids Raised By Grandparents On The Rise

At least 4,000 kids in Wyoming are being raised by relatives other than their parents.

A study done by the Annie E. Casey Foundation reports the number of children in kinship care has gone up 18 percent in the last ten years. Wyoming Kids Count Director Marc Homer said kids do better with their families than in foster care.

Homer said it's most likely that in these situations, a child will live with its grandparents.

A media release from the Wyoming News Service reports kids get separated from their parents due to military deployments, abuse issues or death.
