CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - A task force is recommending that Wyoming no longer allow private companies to seize land for small power lines for wind projects. The Wind Energy Task Force voted 5-4 Thursday in Casper to deny the power of eminent domain to private companies that want to string power lines from wind turbines to main transmission lines. At the same time, the panel recommends that regulated public utilities retain the power of eminent domain.
Wyoming has imposed a moratorium on the use of eminent domain for collector lines from wind farms because they could become numerous if wind energy development booms as predicted. The task force's recommendations go the Legislature, which would have to approve any change in state eminent domain law.
