Johnson County Commissioner Smokey Wildeman felt the need to discuss the proposed projects at the Johnson County Airport, including the purchase of lands for expansion and realignment of the runway, the possibility of providing water to the facility and other amenities that may be added in the coming years.
The commissioners have recently purchased lands near the airport, and he wanted to explain the situation, and said that as the town grows, the airport will need to grow with it.
Wildeman said the airport expansion project is the best bang for the County's buck, as far as economic returns are concerned, especially considering that the County's share is only 2% of an estimated $16-to-$18 million project.
Another amenity the commissioners added to the airport was a jet fuel truck, and Wildeman explains why.
The airport expansion project was originally scheduled to be completed from 2012 to 2014, but has since been postponed.
Wildeman said the land will be there when the expansion finally happens.
