The Whitney Benefits foundation has gifted Sheridan College in Sheridan with a grant to fund a part-time instructor for the college's Certified Nursing Assistant program.
The three-year grant is worth more than $185,000 and will assist in implementing, revising and evaluating the college's certified nursing assistant programs. The new faculty member will teach in the formal classroom setting and at clinical sites.
College officials estimate that 250 certified nursing assistants are employed throughout Sheridan and Johnson counties, with a turnover of about 50 percent in long-term care facilities, each year.
Trudy Munsick is the dean of the college's health sciences department. She said the CNA program has a successful track record, with many of the students landing jobs soon after graduation. She said the continued support of Whitney Benefits ensures that the college's nursing program will remain top-notch far into the future.
