Most probably don't consider Wyoming to be closely connected with the Burkina Faso. And while we may be geographically and culturally far from this African nation, we do share a personal connection. If confirmed, Thomas Dougherty of Casper will become not the first, but the second Wyomingite to become the U.S. Ambassador to Burkina Faso. Wyoming Senator Mike Enzi spoke at his confirmation hearing this
President Obama nominated Dougherty but the Senate Foreign Relations Committee must still vote on his nomination before he is confirmed. They are expected to do so before the Senate adjourns in August. Dougherty has worked in the Foreign Service since 1989.
