Several fires burning around Sheridan County are most likely responsible for much of the smoke around the region Wednesday. The West Prong Fire, which was started by lightning early Tuesday morning is now contained.
Sheridan County Fire Warden Bill Biostoch said that local fire crews will monitor the situation over the next several days to make sure there are no flare-ups. The fire burned approximately 1000 acres of grass, sage, and brush in rugged terrain 20 miles northeast of Sheridan.
Biostoch also stated that there are a few other small fires burning in northeast Sheridan County in the Passaic Road area that are being handled by local resources and are close to being contained as well.
