Crews from Sheridan Fire Rescue and the Goose Valley Fire Department along with Rocky Mountain Ambulance responded to a structure fire Saturday afternoon at 1231 W. 15th Street in Sheridan. Goose Valley Fire Chief Bob Williams.
Williams said that crews responded quickly; however, there wasn't anything that could be done to save the garage when they arrived.
An investigation into the cause of the fire was led by Sheridan Fire-Rescue fire investigator Jason Etchechoury. The investigation revealed that the fire originated in a burn barrel being used to burn refuse near the garage. Fire from the burn barrel spread to combustible vegetation and the adjacent lean to structure. The fire was discovered by a resident of the property and attempts were made to extinguish the blaze with a garden hose. However, the fire continued to grow and spread to the garage and contents.
The public is reminded that Sheridan County is currently under a burn ban. Burning is typically restricted in the later summer months due to dry conditions and increased hazards of fire spread. Please contact the County Commissioners office and your local fire district before initiating any burning. Burning of trash, yard waste, and other refuse is strictly prohibited within the City of Sheridan.
