There was plenty to do for the “trick-or-treater” crowd this past weekend as several organizations hosted Halloween festivities for the youngsters in our community.

The Sheridan Recreation District held its annual Halloween Festival in the old Woodland Park School on Saturday afternoon and hundreds of costume-clad kids filled the gym for the wide variety of games.

This was Recreation Specialist Nick Dore’s first year at heading up the festival, and the attendance more than met his expectations, especially seeing that the Festival was moved out to Woodland Park this year.

Also that afternoon, the local Jaycees held their annual Halloween Parade downtown beginning at City Hall.  In addition to trick-or-treating at downtown businesses, there was something new added to the parade. Jaycee President Christina Hoskinson tells us.

Sunday, Sheridan’s two nursing homes joined in on the Halloween activities, hosting their own Halloween parties for the little ones.  Sheridan Manor administrator David Conaway says the party was good both for the kids and the residents there.

Out at Westview Healthcare Center the hallways were lined with residents waiting for the hundreds of kids trick-or-treating their way down the halls.  Recreation Director Yvette Voogd says the residents enjoyed the festivities just as much as the kids.

The Sheridan Wesleyan Church had 1,435 Halloween visitors parade through their doors Sunday evening at their 5th Annual Family Fall Fun Fest.  In addition to the games, children could participate in a cake walk and games, but the biggest attention-getters were the giant inflatables set up in the church auditorium.  Merri Wills helped coordinate the event.

There certainly was something for everyone to do over this past Halloween weekend in Sheridan.
