Johnson County's Commissioners have scheduled a press conference for 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, following their regular commission meeting, concerning a Memorandum of Understanding on the proposed water rights split at Lake DeSmet.
Johnson and Sheridan Counties and the Lake DeSmet Counties Coalition have been trying to negotiate a water rights lease with the Wyoming Game and Fish, which Johnson County has repeatedly turned down for various reasons including the length of the lease, the amount of money involved and other issues the county has not been comfortable with.
Johnson County rejected a “final offer” from the Game and Fish back in August, and Sheridan County has been looking into the possibility of splitting water rights between the two counties and leasing their rights to the Game and Fish.
The press conference Tuesday will address the MOU on the possible split of water rights.
Also on the agenda is a Resolution on the proposed indoor shooting range, a report from the Board of Health, budget amendments, and discussions on dental plans for county employees.
The meeting begins Tuesday morning at 9am upstairs at the Historic Courthouse.
