WDE Interim Director Warns Joint Education Committee

The Wyoming Department of Education's interim director, Jim Rose, sent a letter to the co-chairs of the Joint Education Committee, warning them of some current challenges the department faces.

In his letter, Rose said the department was not able to provide useable data for legislators at the end of their session - for the first time in many years. Rose said decisions made prior to his appointment at the end of January, from departmental priorities to staffing issues, led to a lack of valid data.

As a result of employee turnover within the state education department over the past two years, Rose said consistent standards have not been in place to manage staffing information that is typically provided to the legislature.

Rose closed the letter by saying valid and reliable data is the foundation for many critical functions of the department - and the state of Wyoming.
