The Lifehouse, an addiction rehabilitation center sponsored by Volunteers of America, helps those who are ready to overcome drug and alcohol dependence using a 12-step residency program.
The fifth of those steps requires a recovering addict to confront the heartache they've caused to themselves, God, and another person. These pseudo-confessions range from crimes committed to disrespecting other people. When a resident is ready, The Lifehouse facilitates a listener from the community to assist in this phase of recovery. Program director, Mark Robertson, said most residents who go through the fifth step are glad they did.
The Lifehouse has separate rooms in their new facility specifically designed to complete this crucial step in healing addiction. Robertson said the courage it takes to complete this step does not go unrecognized.
Robertson will appear live on Public Pulse on Newstalk 930 on Monday for the full hour.
