Jury selection for the trial of Sheridan resident Vincent Scott took place in 4th Judicial District Court Wednesday morning. Both Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Dianna Bennett and Defense Attorney Shelley Cundiff consistently asked the Jury Pool if they would have any trouble keeping an open mind toward the defendant due to the nature of the crimes for which he is on trial.

The Jury for the trial is made up of four females and eight males. Scott is charged with three Felony counts: 1st Degree Sexual Assault; Aggravated Assault and Battery; and Child Abuse. He also faces three misdemeanor charges: Domestic Battery; Interference With a 911 Call; and Violation of a Protection Order.

In November of 2009, Scott allegedly attacked his ex-wife and their 5-year-old child in their home. He also allegedly threatened both of their lives with a knife during the attack. Their 3-month-old daughter was also present in the home during the incident that lasted some 12 hours.

Opening arguments took place just before the the lunch break shortly after 12 pm. The afternoon consisted of testimony from five of the State's witnesses, including the victim and her son. The trial is expected to conclude sometime Thursday afternoon.
