Veterans in Sheridan County still have time to register at the County Assessor's Office to get a tax break on either their property or vehicle taxes.
Normally, the deadline for registration is the fourth Monday in May, which is Memorial Day this year. Because of the holiday, County Assessor, Paul Fall, said registrations will be accepted through the close of business Tuesday. He also said in the past, there have been limits on how many exemptions can be claimed, but that's not the case anymore.
Fall said eligible veterans signing up for the first time should take their discharge papers to the Assessor's Office, but those who have participated in the approximately$200 deduction can re-register over the phone.
