Vehicle Pursuit Through Sheridan Monday

At approximately 11:30 Monday morning, Sheridan Police became involved in a vehicle pursuit. A media release from the Sheridan P.D. States that the vehicle was initially observed by an on-duty Sheridan Police Officer in the 300 block of East 5th Street in Sheridan. The driver, a white male, was recognized by the officer as having an outstanding misdemeanor arrest warrant for probation violation stemming from earlier DUI and Possession of Controlled Substance charges.

When the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle would not pull over and continued to proceed west on 5th Street to Highland, north to 11th Street, east on 11th Street and then north on Main. The vehicle continued north and proceeded onto Decker Road. According to the media release, the vehicle's speed was anywhere between 10 to 15 miles per hour over the speed limit throughout the pursuit. Once into the county, Sheridan County Sheriff's deputies and the Wyoming Highway Patrol assisted and took over control of the pursuit, with one Sheridan Police Department officer remaining to assist.

Highway Patrol and the Sheriff's Office terminated the pursuit once it crossed over into Montana. The fact that authorities knew who the driver of the vehicle was and that the charges were misdemeanor in nature, the pursuit was called off for the safety of the officers involved as well as the suspect. The investigation is continuing and due to the fact that the identity of the driver is known, further charges against the man regarding this incident are expected.
