When Darrel Peterson came home from his second tour in Vietnam, there was no parade to thank him for his service.
He knew the war was unpopular at home, so he did what a lot of veterans did.
A lot of vets were short on words in the aftermath of the Welcome Home ceremony in the auditorium at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The house was packed to hear Governor Matt Mead offer his gratitude in celebration of Wyoming Welcome Home Day.
Most veterans stayed quiet and reserved throughout the ceremony as they received their long overdue recognition from a grateful nation. Peterson was short on words, but the air was heavy with emotion.
Governor Mead will attend four ceremonies today across the state.
