The University of Wyoming has just received its largest estate gift in history, a gift donated by local artist and founder of the Jentel artist's residency, Neltje. Her gift is towards the University's visual and literary arts programs, and includes all her financial and land holdings, except for those going to her children and a few personal donations. In addition, her gift includes a collection of contemporary, tribal and ethnic arts collected by Neltje.
Neltje's own art has been recognized over the years. In 2005, she received a Governor's Art Award. Her work has also been featured in the Smithsonian, in addition to many regional museums.
UW officials did not indicate the exact amount of Neltje's gift, other than it was the largest estate gift they have received to date.
