The United States Forest Service is busy gearing up for the upcoming summer season, with its unofficial opening Memorial Day Weekend.
Currently, officials are working on roads, campgrounds and many other improvement projects in the forest.
Dave McKee, Forest Recreation and Lands Staff Officer with the Bighorn National Forest, explains more about summer preparations.
Specific projects that the focus of the summer include reconstruction at Medicine Lodge Lake, Lower Paintrock Campgrounds, and Muddy Guard Cabin. Also, work in the West Tensleep corridor is still being studied. Finally, Hunter trailhead and campground construction is expected to be completed in mid-June.
The remainder of the campgrounds should be open for business as usual this summer, McKee said, with some already open.
