U.S. 14 Now Open Between Greybull and Sheridan

A temporary detour has allowed US 14 to open for the holiday weekend.
A temporary detour has allowed US 14 to open for the holiday weekend.

The two-lane detour that was constructed to bypass the slide that closed U.S. Highway 14, 31.5 miles east of Greybull on June 13 is now open. District 5 Public Relations Specialist for WYDOT, Cody Beers, says that WYDOT was pleased with the quick work done to get the road re-opened.

WYDOT approved a $164,877 bid on June 22 from Wilson Brothers Construction of Cowley to build the detour around the approximately 100-foot section of damaged highway.

Oversized loads are still not allowed on U.S. 14 because of the heavy runoff and damp soil conditions. WYDOT hopes for permanent reconstruction of the damaged section of U.S. 14 by the end of next summer, but otherwise the detour is a functioning two-lane highway.
