A media release issued Friday morning from the Sheridan County Sheriff's Office indicates that attempts so far have been unsuccessful to determine the identity of human remains discovered in the Big Horn Mountains in April of this year.
The statement says that the sample sent for DNA identification did not yield a viable source of DNA. Further testing will be performed after additional samples are collected and sent to the laboratory for analysis.
Meantime, since the April 19th discovery, and after more snow had melted on the mountain, additional human remains were found near the same area. Samples from the second set of remains are also being submitted for evaluation and testing.
Lt. Mark Conrad with the Sheriff's Office says that further information will be released to the media as it is learned, and if it is determined not to hamper the ongoing investigation of this mystery.
