Wyoming State Treasurer, Mark Gordon, announced recently that the Wyoming Windfall advertising program successfully reunited more than 1,400 residents with their unclaimed funds - in total more than $340,000.

The Unclaimed Property Division, dubbed Wyoming Windfall, keeps track of funds that have been held by a company or another state, sometimes for years, and have not or cannot be paid to the owner. The State of Wyoming safeguards unclaimed funds and makes an effort to return funds to their rightful owner - at no cost.

Since the Uniform Unclaimed Property Act was passed in 1993, Wyoming has returned more than 42-percent of the funds to their rightful owners or heirs.

Gordon said in a media release if anyone is contacted by someone who charges a fee to return these funds to their owner, contact his office at 307-777-5590 and find out for free. Additionally, to look up if your name is on the list for funds currently held by the state, you can do a free search at www.wywindfall.gov.
