Two Gray Wolf Hunt Areas in Cody and Jackson Now Closed

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department announced this weekend that two management units for gray wolf, areas 4 and 6, are closed for hunting the species. The Jackson Management Unit, known by hunters as Area 4, closed Saturday after the quota of three wolves was reached. Area 6, The Absaroka Management Unit in the Cody area, was closed Sunday after a quota of three wolves was also reached.

Wolf seasons close in hunt areas where the species is classified as a trophy game animal when the mortality quota is reached - or when the season closes on December 31 - whichever comes first.

To stay informed of the latest updates on gray wolf hunting season, Game & Fish has a hotline for hunters to call before they set out on a hunt. People can call (800) 264-1280 before going hunting to determine which hunt areas are still open.

Game and Fish wants to remind hunters that any wolf harvested either in the Wolf Trophy Game Management Area or the Seasonal Wolf Trophy Game Management Area between October 15 and February 28 must be reported by calling the above hotline within 24 hours. Also, the skull and pelt must be presented by the license holder within five days of the kill to a game warden, wildlife biologist or Game & Fish regional office for registration.
