There's still time this morning to get down to the Kendrick Park Bandshell and participate in the annual Volunteers of America Turkey Trot. Aside from doing preemptive damage control for the inevitable Thanksgiving binge, the event benefits the community's homeless shelter. The entry fee is three small cans or one large can of food or a $10 donation. Participants place a wager on how long it will take them to do four laps around the park, and whoever comes closest to their guessed time wins a turkey. There's even a kid-size race, which entails just one lap. Candace Swanson, VOA Marketing and Special Events Director, says it's fast becoming a Sheridan community tradition.
Registration starts at 8:45 this morning, and the race kicks off at 10. Dogs and kids in strollers are welcome to participate.
