The melodies of the northern Cheyenne people's courting flute could be heard across the lawns of the Historic Sheridan Inn Tuesday afternoon and Sheridan Media's Judy Hagerott was there and brings us this story.
The northern Cheyenne people's wood flute took center stage at Tuesday's Pow Wow held at the Sheridan Inn. Featuring traditional flute maker and player Jay Old Mouse, he demonstrated and shared its importance to the Cheyenne people.
The flute player's music comes from the spirit, the heart.
Old Mouse explains.
Even picking out of the wood to make the flutes carries sacred tradition.
Today and tomorrow there will be a special presentation at the Sheridan Inn beginning at 3 in the afternoon, culminating with the First People's Pow Wow that will take place on the lawn of the Inn immediately following the parade Friday morning.
