Tuesday Marks Equal Pay Day

The Wyoming Women's Foundation has announced Tuesday is “Equal Pay Day.” April 9 is the date that illustrates the disparity between men and women's pay. Essentially, the amount of money earned collectively by women up to this date represents how much less than men they are paid.

Nationwide, women make 77 cents for every dollar men make, even though women are more likely to attend and graduate from college. Wyoming has the biggest pay gap in the nation, where women are paid, on average, 65 cents to a man's dollar.

Equal Pay Day was established by the Natioal Committee on Pay Equality in 1996. Representatives from the Wyoming Women's Foundation plan to hand out information and speak to elected officials this month to increase awareness about the wage gap.
