Sheridan County School District 2 will seek state funds to renovate several schools and the bus barn.
The request will go to the Wyoming School Facilities Commission at the end of this month. Trustees approved the district's facilities plan following a public hearing during their meeting this week.
Facilities Director Julie Carroll told trustees the plan is a continuing work in progress.
Requested work includes upgrades for Sheridan High School's boiler plant, remediation at Sagebrush Elementary School, and relocation of Fort McKenzie High School and The Wright Place. The facilities director said the two alternative schools, presently in the Early Building on the grounds of Sheridan's junior high school, need to be moved because the junior high school is growing. She said enrollment at the junior high will reach 700 next year, and is projected to continue growing in succeeding years. She said the junior high needs the Early Building space.
Also at this week's meeting, district trustees approved School Calendar A as the official calendar for the 2015/2016 school year. Parents, district staff and the community were invited to choose from two proposed calendars. The one selected, by a 62 percent vote, calls for classes to begin on Sept. 1, 2015, and end June 3, 2016. Spring break will be March 28 through April 1.
