A truck crash in the mountains near Sheridan held up traffic for a few hours today on a major roadway.

Leslie Stratmoen has the report.

A semi carrying a load of bentonite crashed this morning on a mountain road in the Big Horns west of Dayton, partially closing the highway for about three hours.

Ronda Holwell of the Wyoming Department of Transportation said the trucker was coming down the mountain on U.S. 14, when he lost control of the vehicle.

She said the driver was taken to the hospital, but his injuries were minor, no one else was hurt, and the cargo was saved.

She said her department is in the process, right now, of conducting a study on the need and location for an emergency truck ramp in that area, because there isn't one there, right now.

That may have helped in this situation, she said, to slow the truck down because the truck driver may have been traveling too fast for the conditions on the roadway.
