TRMS, Elementary Participating in International Walk to School Day

Tongue River Elementary and middle school students will participate in International walk to school Day Wednesday, October 5th.

Executive Director of the Tongue River Valley Community Center, Erin Kilbride, says that about fifty students will be participating, to promote awareness of the safe routes to school in Ranchester.

Several “safe routes” were built about a year ago: along Hardin Street up from the elementary school, on side streets all along Highway 14, and along a new paved route from the Buckhorn Grocery all the way up to the middle school.

New crosswalks and crossing guards were also put in place. Grants from the National Center for Safe Routes to School paid for the projects.

Students, parents and others will walk from the Old Ranch House Building in Ranchester at 7:30 am and expect to arrive at school at 7:45. Bikers can participate as well.

3,500 schools in forty countries participate in the yearly event. The TRVCC and the Sheridan County Wellness Council organized the activity.
